Call for Volunteers: 2015 Charlottesville Bike and Pedestrian Count

For Immediate Release

2015 Bike and Pedestrian Count

*Call for Volunteers*

On April 26th, The Charlottesville-Albemarle Metropolitan Planning Organization (CA-MPO) will begin the first set of Bike and Pedestrian counts for 2015. This effort is in partnership with the City of Charlottesville, Albemarle County, the University of Virginia and local bike advocates. Volunteers will help collect critical bike and pedestrian data at 10 locations and we need your help with gathering data. Volunteers can sign-up for a location and time by visiting our online calendar. If you have any difficulties with signing up, please contact Will Cockrell, at wcockrell@tjpdc.org or (434) 979-7310 x440. Also, refer to the FAQs and the goal of the counts is to establish and maintain a database for bicycle and pedestrian travel in our community. Unlike other traffic data, counts on bike and pedestrian traffic are often limited or non-existent. Because of this data gap, localities often have great difficulty with planning bicycle and pedestrian facilities in a comprehensive manner. While the City, the University, and portions of the County have bike/ped facilities, there are gaps in the network and opportunities to improve connections between the two jurisdictions. The data in this report will help lay the foundation for funding and justifying these investments.
